Plant Life in schools
The new Living Uplands Plant Life FREE education resources were the focus of an afternoon with John Hayton and the Durham Wildlife Trust (DWT) Education Team for a class of pupils for Witton le Wear Primary School.
The children used the learning resources developed by Living Uplands and DWT to identify different plant species, explore the different parts of a plant, and investigate some of the creatures that use the plants for food or somewhere to live.
The children loved pointing out the parts of the plant and showing their evolving understanding of the importance of plants to our environment.
The also enjoyed finding some of the mini-beasts that call the plants their home.
By the end of the afternoon, the children were able to talk about the relationships between plants and animals and could explain why trees and plants are so important for our survival, as well as identifying some species by sight.
Classroom teacher Rebecca, at Witton le Wear PS, commented on the Plant Life Resources and the DWT Team's activities that: "The resources were great. Thanks again for the visit, it was fantastic and tied in really well with our science topics."
The DWT Education Team is already booked for another Plant Life session next summer at Witton le Wear PS. If your school would like to plan a visit and use any Living Uplands resource pack at any time through the year contact John at DWT.
