Despite the rain, the St Cuthberts Weardale Clay Shoot on 6th June 2026 was a great day for all participating. This was a community charity event and, to date, just over £15,000 was raised on the day, with some monies still to be added for St. Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham.
Funds raised included a generous donation of £8888 pledged by principal sponsor for the event, Living Uplands: St Cuthbert’s Hospice opened at its present location in 1988 and support from the business community in Durham is organised through St Cuthbert’s ‘88 Club. Alex Lloyd from St Cuthbert’s was there to thank everyone and to explain the challenges faced by the hospice.

Organisers thanked all who made the day such a great success; the clay stand teams and counters, the caterers, the volunteers who helped with registration and with all the background jobs. Special thanks to the sponsors, Bidwells, Weardale Lithium, Modular Plantrooms, Scottish Woodlands, Lewis Sutton, North Edge and Living Uplands.
Assisted by Living Uplands, the day was organised by Alex Raynor in tribute to his late father Nick. St. Cuthbert’s Hospice (LINK) had a wide range of services that support families with end-of-life care, and a substantial part of its budget relies on public support and days such as the Weardale Clay Shoot.
